[Review] Nabisco Limited Edition Cinnamon Donut Chewy Chips Ahoy! Cookies

For years, it’s been beaten into our brains that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But I’m pretty sure no one has ever said what the most important food is for a normal human’s diet. Milk? Maybe. Lean meat? Eh, whatevs. Donuts? Ding ding ding, we have a winner.

Donuts are the most important food because they are the tastiest food. Bear claws, bismarcks, crullers…I think I made a fritter in my long johns just thinking about them. See what I did there? Please don’t leave my blog I have like two readers.

The only food arguably better than donuts is cookies, and the only food better than cookies is donut cookies (I am killing the logic games today). After a couple of decent Chips Ahoy! flavors earlier this year in S’mores and Red Velvet Chips Ahoy!, Nabisco is back and speaking directly to my fat little donut-loving heart. Unlike S’mores and Red Velvet however, these brand new Cinnamon Donut Chewy Chips Ahoy! Cookies are limited edition. That means that this fall season, they’ll provide all of the sustenance I need until Limited Edition Hot Cocoa Chips Ahoy! (hopefully) return in the winter.

Cinnamon Donut Chewy Chips Ahoy! feature both cinnamon and apple donut flavored chips. It seems pretty ambitious of Nabisco to try to nail cinnamon and apple donut flavors in one little cookie, but hey, if they could do it with Swedish Fish–wait a minute…

Opening the package, these cookies smell strongly similar to real cake donuts, with hints of cinnamon and apple. With the first bite, there’s a very sugary, doughy taste, building on the cake donut vibe. The cinnamon is noticeable, but not overwhelming. Much to my disappointment, there isn’t really any “apple donut” flavor here at all.

The chewy texture of these cookies ties everything together nicely and is strongly reminiscent of an actual cinnamon sugar donut. I don’t think the chips are actually doing anything other than providing some creaminess to each chew, but there are some sugar granules somewhere in every cookie that really add to that sensation of biting into a cinnamon sugar donut. It’s fantastic.

I actually enjoyed these Limited Edition Cinnamon Donut Chewy Chips Ahoy! quite a bit, and will probably buy them again before they leave shelves. Although they completely missed the “apple donut” flavor, the rest of the cookie imitates a cinnamon sugar donut perfectly. And that’s pretty good for this donut/cookie/donut cookie lover.

In a Nutshell: Cookies actually smell and taste like a cinnamon sugar donut. Apple is nowhere to be found. The “chips” in “Chips Ahoy!” need to do some serious soul-searching.
