[3-Pack Review] Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Mint, Limited Edition Twix White, and Snickers & Hazelnut

Halloween is tomorrow! Man, October has really flown by. I was just about to ask where the time has gone, but then I realized that I spent the last month almost exclusively eating pumpkin spice snacks. Hopefully, you all have done something more productive with your time. Like…almost anything.

One of the things that makes Halloween such a great holiday is that one house on your street. You know, The House–the one that gives out full-sized candy bars. I never had one of those houses in my neighborhood growing up, so I just made up for it by eating full-sized candy bars practically every other day of the year. On a related note, kids used to call me “Mounds,” not because that was my favorite candy bar, but because that was an accurate way to describe how my upper body looked in a sweater.

This Halloween, The House will have a few more choices of candy bars to hand out to trick-or-treaters: Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Mint, Limited Edition Twix White, and Snickers & Hazelnut. All can be found at Walmart. Which ones are treats, and which are just tricks? Don’t worry, everybody. Good ol’ Mounds is here to answer that for you.

Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Mint bar has a few components you’re likely familiar with in other Hershey’s bars. It uses the same classic Hershey’s milk chocolate, and the cookie bits from the Cookies ‘n’ Creme bar. What makes this bar different, of course, is the mint flavoring. The cookie bits are made from darker cocoa, which gives them a slightly bitter flavor. This works really well with the mint, which builds and sweetens as you eat it. For the most part, this candy bar blends together well, but it is definitely a chocolate bar first and “cookies ‘n’ mint” second.

Twix White uses the same cookie and caramel layers of a regular Twix bar, but with a white chocolate coating. The white chocolate used here isn’t wildly different from other white chocolate I’ve had, but something about it is just…off-putting. Somehow, it manages to be sweet yet bland at the same time. Oddly, the white chocolate also seems to bring out the floury and salty aspects of the cookie the most. If I had to be nice, I guess I would say that this kind of tastes like a slightly burned, store-bought frosted sugar cookie. Kind of.

Like Twix, Snickers & Hazelnut makes one small change to the regular bar. It keeps the milk chocolate, peanuts, caramel, and nougat, but also adds–you guessed it–hazelnuts. Honestly, there’s not a wild difference between this and a regular Snickers. I foolishly hoped that the chocolate and hazelnut combination would basically make this a Nutella candy bar, but that’s not the case (though a Nutella candy bar would be great). For the most part, Snickers & Hazelnuts basically just taste like a regular Snickers, with the occasional earthy, slightly floral taste of hazelnuts when you happen to find one.

So for all you trick-or-treaters out there, here’s the deal. Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Mint and Snickers & Hazelnut are a couple of treats that are worth your trouble. If you come across a house only giving out Twix White, they deserve a trick–no questions asked.
