Be my valentine, babe!
Here’s a bag of Donettes
Chocolate covered strawberry is done to death around Valentine’s Day, so it’s somewhat surprising that this is the first time we’re seeing Hostess Donettes in this flavor. But despite their bright red interior, Hostess Limited Edition Frosted Strawberry Donettes don’t actually have any strawberry flavor in the cake itself. The cake is pretty dry and just tastes like a doughy cake donut.
All of the “chocolate covered strawberry” effect seems to be in the near-plastic frosting, which starts with a good semi-sweet chocolate flavor, but then gives way to a chemical tang that’s apparently supposed to represent strawberry. The aftertaste is something that’s more unpleasant than your worst break-up.
I regret wasting a poetic masterpiece on these.
