[Special Feature] Snickers Espresso, Snickers Fiery, and Snickers Salty & Sweet

Apparently I’ve been going through some extreme mood swings recently, because Mars Incorporated just dropped me a big ol’ care package.

Also known as a hint.

Snickers is rolling out three brand new limited edition flavors: Snickers Espresso, Snickers Fiery, and Snickers Sweet & Salty. Each bar features peanuts and caramel covered in milk chocolate, but with a different flavor-infused nougat (espresso, hot pepper, or salted caramel). All three bars will hit shelves in June 2018, and Mars was kind enough to send me early samples to review.

The bars’ packaging is labeled to help fans solve their specific hunger symptom. Espresso is your cure for being irritable. Fiery keeps you from being wimpy. Salty & Sweet lends a hand if you’re indecisive.

Yeeesh. Is there a Snickers bar for feeling self-conscious?

Snickers Espresso

First up, Snickers Espresso. The first thing I noticed is the bar’s aroma, as though someone dunked a Snickers into some freshly roasted coffee grounds. That sounds…pretty disgusting actually, but it smells divine.

Snickers Espresso tastes great, too. The espresso flavor is evident in the very first bite, but it’s not overpowering, and the caramel, peanuts, and milk chocolate come through in equal balance. This is just a fantastic flavor profile. As coffee-flavored snacks go, I prefer Snickers Espresso over Coffee Nut M&Ms and enjoy it about as much as Dunkin’ Donuts Mocha Oreos.

Snickers Fiery

Next, Snickers Fiery. If the Paqui One Chip Challenge proves anything, it’s that people love spicy food, and Mars is hoping to capitalize on that trend here. I just hope I fare better than that news anchor who threw up on camera.

I’ve got to admit, Snickers Fiery has much more of a kick than I was expecting. The first bite is unassuming and tastes just like a normal Snickers bar. Then, the hot pepper flavor sets in and builds as you chew. I’m a fan of spicy foods, but even I found my eyes welling up a bit. The spice actually works quite well with the other ingredients, too, as I was still able to locate the classic salty and sweet Snickers flavors. Speaking of which…

Snickers Salty & Sweet

Finally, Snickers Salty & Sweet. This is easily the safest of the three flavors, since the nougat is salted caramel flavor, and Snickers already consists of sweet caramel and chocolate, and salty peanuts. Basically, Mars could switch out the “Indecisive?” label for “Oh, why not?”

Snickers Salty + Sweet is essentially just Snickers plus salt. The flavors are all the same, but saltier. The texture of the nougat even has an increased graininess to it, as though there are large salt crystals scattered throughout. If you really crave salt, you might prefer this, but I’d personally rather have a plain Snickers bar.

If I had to rank the 2018 limited edition Snickers flavors, I’d say: Snickers Espresso, then Snickers Fiery, and then Snickers Salty & Sweet. But don’t just take my word for it–try them when they hit convenience stores and grocery shelves in June 2018, and let me know what you think!

Disclaimer: Mars, Incorporated generously sent me Snickers Espresso, Snickers Fiery, and Snickers Salty & Sweet to try. This did not affect my review in any way.
